Cancellation Policy (Reseller Terms) for Amtrak Tickets

As a third-party reseller handling Amtrak bookings, we follow Amtrak’s cancellation rules. Please review the details carefully to understand when cancellations are allowed and what you can expect.

1. When Cancellation Is Allowed

  • If you book a ticket — regardless of fare type — you may request cancellation any time before the scheduled departure, subject to fare-type rules.
  • If you cancel within 24 hours of purchase, and the reservation has not yet departed, some tickets may qualify for a full refund.
  • For tickets using reward-points (through Amtrak’s loyalty program) — if canceled before departure, points are generally refunded to the account.

2. Refund Eligibility & Fees Depend on Fare Type

Cancellation outcomes depend heavily on the fare you purchased:

Fare Type / Ticket Type Cancellation / Refund Terms
Flexible (Flex) Fully refundable before departure; no cancellation fee.
Value / Coach-Value / Standard Refundable if canceled sufficiently before departure. Partial refund — often with a portion forfeited, depending on timing.
Saver / Non-Flexible / Discounted Generally non-refundable after the risk-free period; cancellation may result in no refund or only limited credit (voucher) depending on Amtrak’s rules.
Multi-Ride Pass, Monthly Pass, Special Tickets Cancellation valid only if unused/unused segments and depending on pass-specific rules. Refunds may be limited or involve fees.

3. How to Submit a Cancellation Request

  • For E-tickets / online reservations: cancellation can usually be done via Amtrak’s website — using the reservation number and email/phone used during booking
  • For bookings made elsewhere (e.g. via agent or phone): you or we (as reseller) can attempt cancellation through Amtrak’s “My Trip” page, even if original booking wasn’t done on Amtrak.com.
  • If tickets were physical (paper) and printed instead of e-tickets, original tickets must be surrendered for cancellation/refund.
  • For bookings via gift cards: refunds may be issued as eVouchers instead of cash/credit.

4. What Cancelling Means — What You Might Lose

  • Cancellation fees and refund conditions vary by fare type — some fare types may forfeit full fare.
  • “No-Show”: If the passenger fails to show up and doesn’t cancel before departure, the ticket is forfeited and no refund is given.
  • Once travel begins (or any segment used), cancellation/refund for remaining journey may not be allowed, or value will be adjusted for used segments.
  • Because tickets are subject to the fare rules printed on them, some fares (promotional, discount, etc.) might be strictly non-refundable, or only partially refundable as per Amtrak policy.

5. Our Role as Your Reseller

  • As your reseller, we will forward your cancellation request to Amtrak on your behalf. Final approval, refund amount/format, and any fee assessment is controlled by Amtrak — not by us.
  • We will assist in gathering necessary information — reservation number, passenger details, reason for cancellation — to help ensure the request is processed smoothly.
  • Any service fee or convenience charge you paid us at the time of booking may be non-refundable (unless otherwise specified at booking).
  • If refund is approved, it will usually be returned to the original payment method (unless fare or payment method stipulates eVoucher or gift-card refund) as per Amtrak’s rules.

6. How to Request Cancellation

To cancel your ticket:

  1. Contact us (via email: reservation@issuancedesk.com / phone: ++1-844-449-8372) with your booking reference number, passenger name(s), and fare type.
  2. We’ll submit the cancellation to Amtrak on your behalf and notify you once Amtrak confirms.
  3. If eligible, Amtrak will issue refund (or voucher/eVoucher) according to fare rules; we will share the confirmation with you.
